It’s our canal; let’s protect it!” “May the light keep on dancing beautifully through the leaves onto the water,” “A tree for life”… these are just some of the words of support that have been published on the donation wall since the first call for donations was launched by Voies Navigables de France at the end of 2013.
Preserving the canal du Midi is a collective challenge, meaning there is a considerable budget needed to carry out the whole project (cutting down infected or dead trees, reconstructing the banks, planting and monitoring new trees, implementing measures to protect animal biodiversity).
Help us get it back on its feet, so as to hand down the canal’s new-look canopy to future generations.
There are various ways to get involved with the replanting of the canal du Midi:
- Make a donation.
- Take part in events where the proceeds are donated directly to the replantation project, or participate in partner events.
- Buy solidarity products.
Make a donation
Join the community of canal du Midi “replanters” by donating. In doing this, you will be contributing to the restoration of the canal du Midi’s exceptional heritage, which has already lasted for more than three centuries!
You can either make a one-time donation or opt for a monthly direct debit.
You can pay by card on our secure site by clicking below!
You can also send a check to “Mission Mécénat VNF” at the following address:
VNF, service mécénat
2 port Saint-Etienne, BP 7204
31073 Toulouse Cedex 7
An attractive tax deduction
By making a donation to Voies Navigables de France (VNF), you will benefit from a tax deduction of 66%. This means that a donation of €150 actually costs you only €51
Where does my donation go?
One third is used to rebuild the banks of the canal that are collapsing due to the lack of plane tree stumps and roots, another third is used for felling, and the last third will go toward replanting and the protection of biodiversity (creation of habitats specifically for protected species of birds and bats).
Did you know…
A mini-donation station (€3) has been set up alongside the canal du Midi in the Château de Ventenac in Minervois. After visiting its co-operative wine cellar, warehouses and museum, all you need to do is carry out a contactless card payment at the donation station to contribute to the canal du Midi replanting project.
Take part in our solidarity events
The VNF patronage program is constantly coming up with original events for all to enjoy. The aim of these events is to bring lovers of the canal du Midi together while raising money. All the proceeds from these events are donated to the canal du Midi replanting program and the preservation of its environment.
Whether it’s a gourmet picnic, an outdoor movie screening, a concert on the water or a photography exhibition along the canal, you can be sure to have a good time! Not only that, but you’ll also be donating to a wonderful cause.
Buying solidarity products
Through the VNF patronage program, artists are supporting the canal du Midi replanting project with their solidarity creations.
A “solidarity product” (or “partner product”) is a creation for which a percentage of the retail price is donated to a cause of public interest.
When you buy these products, your consumption is supporting the cause – you can treat yourself (or your loved ones) while helping to restore the canal du Midi.
